How Much Does Conference Interpretation Cost in the UAE? 2026 Budget and Equipment Guide
The Short Answer
The cost of conference interpretation in the UAE is built from five things: the mode (simultaneous in a booth, or consecutive), the language pairs, the length of the event (half or full day), the number of interpreters per language, and the equipment (booths, transmitters, headsets and a technician). Written translation is priced per page; interpreting is priced per interpreter per half or full day, plus equipment.
Smart World Legal Translation (SWLT) provides conference interpreters and interpretation equipment in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and across the UAE, with a free quote for each event. Our event equipment packages start from about AED 2,000; interpreter fees are quoted per event.
The Five Factors Behind Every Quote
1. Simultaneous or consecutive
In simultaneous interpreting, interpreters work from a soundproof booth and listeners hear them live on headsets; it is the standard for conferences because it does not lengthen the programme. In consecutive interpreting, the speaker pauses and the interpreter renders each passage; it needs no booth and suits board meetings, negotiations and notary appointments, but roughly doubles speaking time. See conference interpreting services in the UAE.
2. Two interpreters per booth
Simultaneous interpreting is too demanding for one person over a long session, so professional standards, including those of AIIC, put two interpreters in each booth, taking turns about every 30 minutes. A full-day conference with Arabic–English and Arabic–Russian therefore needs four interpreters, not two.
3. Language pair and subject
Arabic–English is the most available pair in the UAE. Russian, Chinese, French, German, Urdu or Spanish channels, and specialist subjects such as medicine, arbitration or energy, take longer to staff and prepare for.
4. Equipment and technical support
If the venue has no built-in system, the quote adds booths, interpreter consoles, an infrared or radio transmitter, one receiver and headset per listener, and a technician for set-up, sound check and the event itself.
5. On-site, remote or hybrid
For online and hybrid meetings, interpreters can work remotely on platforms such as Zoom or Teams, which removes booth transport and set-up costs.
Which Set-Up Fits Which Event
| Event | Mode | Interpreters | Equipment | How it is priced |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| International conference or summit | Simultaneous | Two per language booth | Booth, transmitter, headsets for listeners, technician | Interpreters per half or full day, plus equipment package |
| Workshop or training session | Simultaneous or portable tour-guide system | One or two, depending on length | Portable transmitter and receivers, or a booth | Per session length and number of receivers |
| Board meeting or negotiation | Consecutive | One specialist interpreter | None | Per hour, half day or full day |
| Signing before a notary | Consecutive (legal) | One legal interpreter | None | Per appointment; document translation from AED 60 per 200-word page |
| Webinar or virtual meeting | Remote simultaneous | One or two, depending on length | Online platform; no venue equipment | Interpreter time only |

Four Ways to Lower the Cost Without Lowering Quality
Most savings come from planning rather than from cutting interpreters:
- Order headsets for the listeners who need them. If 80 of 300 delegates need the Arabic channel, plan receivers for them plus a margin, not for the whole hall.
- Send the agenda and slides early. Three to five days' notice lets interpreters prepare names and terminology, which avoids last-minute extras.
- Book one provider for interpreters, equipment and documents. One supplier for the booth, the interpreters and the translated programme, press release and contracts means fewer hand-offs and one quote.
- Ask about volume terms if you run events often. Organisations with recurring events or ongoing translation can ask about monthly retainer pricing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are interpreters paid by the hour or by the day?
For conferences, usually per half day or full day. Short meetings and remote sessions can be priced by the hour. The rate depends on the language pair and the subject.
Why do we need two interpreters in one booth?
Simultaneous interpreting means listening, analysing and speaking at once. Taking turns about every 30 minutes keeps accuracy steady over the day.
Is a technician included with the equipment?
Yes. Our equipment packages include set-up, a sound check and on-site technical support during the event.
Which languages can you interpret?
Arabic and English, plus Russian, Chinese, French, German, Urdu, Spanish, Turkish, Persian and other languages on request.
